Forgive or Not To Forgive? RETHINK!

In my speaking sessions, one thing comes out very strongly: No one is willing to FORGIVE anyone!
There seems to be a mental block against this word. I am sure everyone have their own reasons for not forgiving people – friends and foes alike!

Here are some wise quotes which MAY make us rethink about this:
“Always forgive your enemies – nothing annoys them so much.”

β€œTo forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner was you.”
“The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.”
“To err is human but to forgive is divine.”
“You will know that forgiveness has begun when you recall those who hurt you and feel the power to wish them well.”

“When a deep injury is done us, we never recover until we forgive.”
“I can forgive, but I cannot forget, is only another way of saying, I will not forgive. Forgiveness ought to be like a canceled note – torn in two, and burned up, so that it never can be shown against one.”
Please feel free to add more quotes or comments on the topic!

This is by no means the end of this HOT topic. I am definitely going to write a long one on this!
So get ready for some fireworks – as usual!

Keep shining.

Dare to dream!

Have a great life!

What I believe if we can apply this in our life, the life become so loving and beautiful but how can we help other to implement this in his/her life. In our life most of the time those who loves you, we always wants to see that person always smiling and I think this is one of the most important thing that changes the way we see the world. Am I right?

    • Thanks for the comment, Shahzad. Very valid point.
Yes, we should try and explain this to our near and dear ones. However, its difficult for people to let go. Forgiveness is all about letting go.

We can show them how happily we live when we forgive those who have hurt us deeply. But, in the end everyone has to live his own life.

      God bless you.

      Keep inspiring.

  • i can forgive but i can’t forget is not the other way of saying i’m not forgiving you. sometimes things are hard to forget .. and at least we have to keep in mind to not repeat same mistake or trust same person again even if we are forgiving them, isn’t it?

    • Precisely, Aisha. We all have to learn from our mistakes.
The ideal thing would be to forgive and forget – but don’t forget the lesson.
      Thanks for the comment.
      God bless you.

Well said, Shahnoor. Maybe this is the process that we all have to go through… some go through it quickly and some….
As they say: Time is the best healer…but who knows how much time we have!
    Thanks for sharing your thoughts…

I think forgiving is a process not just an act. I think we need to go through the entire process of anger, hurt, rebellion/revenge, acceptance and then finally letting go. If we jump the process, it is possible that we do not forget completely and it may come back to us. If we can however strive to hurry thru the process to make it as short as possible.

    Just my opinion πŸ™‚

Someone said that "Forgive your enemies but never forget their names"
I guess JF Keddeny said this.

In my opinion it's the forgetting part which is most difficult.
