Don’t Take Life Seriously by The Author of 3 Idiots

The ‘paperback king of India’, Chetan Bhagat – who has authored various bestsellers including ‘5 Point Someone’ which became the inspiration behind the recent Bollywood sensation ‘3 Idiots’ – has a different notion of success.

During a speech given at the orientation program of young MBAs at Symbiosis, Pune he said a lot of out-of-this-world things, some of them I have mentioned below:

“Don’t just have career or academic goals. Set goals to give you a balanced, successful life.

I use the word balanced before successful. Balanced means ensuring your health, relationships, mental peace are all in good order.

There is no point of getting a promotion on the day of your breakup.

There is no fun in driving a car if your back hurts.

Shopping is not enjoyable if your mind is full of tensions.

Life is one of those races in nursery school where you have to run with a marble in a spoon kept in your mouth. If the marble falls, there is no point coming first.

Same is with life where health and relationships are the marble. Your
striving is only worth it if there is harmony in your life.

Else, you may achieve the success, but this spark, this feeling of being excited and alive, will start to die.

One thing about nurturing the spark – don’t take life seriously.

Life is not meant to be taken seriously, as we are really temporary here.

We are like a pre-paid card with limited validity. If we are lucky, we may last another 50 years. And 50 years is just 2,500 weekends.

Do we really need to get so worked up?

It’s ok, bunk a few classes…

Scoring low in couple of papers…

Goof up a few interviews…

Take leave from work…

Fall in love…

Little fights with your spouse…

We are people, not programmed devices…!”

“Don’t be serious, be sincere!”

Wah what words! Maza aagaya!

I wish all of us could understand this and live this philosophy…Need I say more?

Please share his speech with your family and especially those who just begun their practical lives, or will soon.

I am sure you will NOT agree with this one… Do you?

Thanks Chetan for this!

    Dear Realist,

    Thanks for the comment.

    Sorry for a late reply.

Everyone has a right to his/her opinion and you have an equal one as well.
It is not about owning up anything that anyone has said. Its a way of life.

If you look up what Chetan has been able to achieve in HIS life, you would be surprised.

I am a firm believer that life gives you what you expect out of it.

Maybe you are right, but its not about being right.

Everyone's approach to life is different, we all exist in the reality that WE choose create…

Have an outstanding life, full of happiness and fun.

At the end of the day it is all about harmony with a big H and sincerity… its different for everyone and its laden with expectations in real life. Words are just words – I dare Chetan and anyone to own up to everything that he does or say – for a change it would be good to know what one stands for in life… more than words and more than feel good sentiments and facades. There is always an entertainment value in all this people love it because they don't know; they don't know that they don't know… A Realist!
